Email, cell phones, and computers are changing the way we communicate with each other. How do you think this is affecting poetry and the effectiveness of the communication done in poetry or in everyday life? In class one day you mentioned how hip-hop and traditional poetry had a lot to offer each other. Could you please expand on this? If you put your finger on any one experience that affected you most in life what would it be? A lot of people tell me they don't like poetry because they don't 'get' poetry. Do you think poetry is accessible and understandable to all people? If it is not, what can we do as poets to make poetry easier to grasp with preserving our voice and our intentions? With the elections upcoming (actually just finishing up) it is being highlighted that Americans are becoming more apathetic, distrustful, and isolated. As poets I believe we are trying to create understanding between people. How important do you think it is for poets and artists to be socially responsible and active to preserve the ideas and beliefs of their art in their everyday lives? Thank You!
