Green Against Grey

our time together was an argument
anointing me into silence:
striving to be as da Vinci,
'to study the stained worn walls'
nature's accidental queries
to suggest the defining
composition: tough and vigorous
surviving in the rubble
like the beheaded dandelion
where life is held by one root hair.
I came to learn that the ugly and
beautiful are one,
justice's illegitimate child is
revenge.
